| Note: O'Brien was the only destroyer to serve in DESRON 12
that was not a Benson-Livermore class ship. O'Brien is a pre-war Sims
class destroyer. One can also see the early involvement of this destroyer
squadron in 1942 in all major Pacific actions. It can be stated that
without the ships of DESRON 12, the Japanese could have taken control of
the South Pacific in late 1942. |
