History of USS Abner Read DD-769

DD-769, a Gearing-class destroyer, was laid down on 21 May 1944 by the Bethlehem Steel Co., San Francisco, Calif., and was assigned the name Abner Read. Since she was incomplete at the end of the war, further construction was canceled on 13 September 1946, and the incomplete ship was broken up on the slip.
